If you’d told Huong Nguyen a decade ago that she would leave her home in Hanoi and end up making Vietnamese food for New Zealanders with her partner Harry Birnbreuer she would have laughed at you. “I was working as an accountant and I came to New Zealand on holiday and met Harry. We fell in love and I ended up moving here in 2020.” Huong has always loved cooking so after trying out a few jobs she decided to take the plunge and cook her family recipes to sell at night markets. One thing led to another and now the couple have a food truck that regularly sells out of their delicious street food like Banh Mi, Pho, spring rolls, flans and Vietnamese iced coffee.
You will find Hanoi Kitchen at Catalina Bay and other markets in Tamaki – here is a link to their instagram
